Humidity, heat conditions have given birth to various germs and bacteria increasing chances of spread of various diseases in the district.[/FONT]

[FONT=Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]The rainy season is at its end. Water which gets collected in pot holes is proving a breeding ground for the mosquitoes. This condition is responsible for spread of diseases.[/FONT]

[FONT=Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]Safe drinking water is another problem being faced by the people. In lack of it many cases of stomach diseases are coming to light.[/FONT]

The water of these wells is not fit for consumption due to bacteria present. The administration has advised the people to drink water after boiling it or chlorinating the water before consumption. Potasium permanganate should be included to purify drinking water.[/FONT]

Lateri (Vidisha), Sept 26: Now-a-days in cities and villages the People are falling prey to seasonal diseases these days. Large number of patients of the district are visiting the hospitals as a result. The state of the government hospitals has only compounded their miseries even more as doctors and medicines both are not available properly.

People in the area are suffering from Chickengunia, viral fever, malaria, loose motions, cough and cold and pneumonia. They reach in large numbers at the government hospitals where doctors are not available and other staff is also not available sufficiently.

The doctors give prescription to the patients while the patients are unable to purchase medicines costing nearly Rs 300 to 400.

However the Chief Medical Officer said that medicines are being sent to the tehsil hospitals in sufficient quantities.

There is lack of facilities of beds and benches and medicines at the government hospital and even the emergency light is not available here.

X-Ray machine at the hospital here is biting the dust and has become a show piece.

Citizens of the area said that pregnant women are unable to get Janani Prasav Yojna amount in time. Hospital management takes unnecessary time to give the amount to the beneficiaries.

Sources said that this scheme also seems to have been exploited because the hospital management gives less amount to the patients. For different examinations the patients are sent to private pathology clinics. There is no facility of any types of pathological tests at the hospital.

The scheme aims at reduction in maternal mortality /infant mortality. The scheme seeks to focus on providing benefits to the pregnant women of Below Poverty Line families and to encourage antenatal care, institutional deliveries and provision for post-partum care which is important not only for the health of the mother but has very significant effect on the health and survival of the newborn.
