Viral fever claims three lives in Almora

Two women and a minor girl died of viral fever in the Salt area of Almora district. According to the medical department, the viral infection has gripped a large number of villagers in the area.

According to villagers, the women died of the fever on Thursday while one-year-old Bhawna, daughter of Shikhar Kothari, a resident of Panyali village, died yesterday. ?Sixty per cent of the villagers in Dadoli, Panyali and Punakot are in the grip of the viral fever. The department has so far remained insensitive to it,? said Pan Singh, gram pradhan of Punakot village, Salt sub-division of the district.

Haridwar people suffer from viral diseases with change in weather

With the sudden change in weather, intermittent rains and drop in temperature, doctors in the city are seeing more cases of common flu, viral fever and influenza like illness in the city. Authorities concerned said that medical officers have been alerted to help patients get medical attention on time.

?Last month we saw many dengue cases where the symptoms would be like influenza but this month the number has come down. We are also seeing non-specific viral fevers in a number of patients. The main reason is change in the weather,? said Dr Rajesh Gupta, president of the Indian Medical Association, Haridwar.

Doctors also mentioned that apart from normal fever caused by virus, they are also seeing fever of unknown origin in patients where the cause for the fever remains unidentified. ?Sometimes these fevers last from seven to ten days the these patients do not respond to any medicine. I see almost three to four such cases of unexplained illness every week,? Gupta added.

Most of these infections Gupta said have similar symptoms of cold, upper respiratory infection, fever, nasal block sometimes accompanied by wheezing.
