Uttar Pradesh: Hontw(?) throat outbreak of half a dozen cattle died

Ronan Kelly

Retired 2020
The translation is letting us down here. I have no idea what Hontw or Galohontw is. First paragraph starts with "foot" and "disease" together, but I'm not sure this implies HFMD as I've seen the phrase "Pasharne foot/feet" used before but not in a disease context. Further down there is a mention of "put oil in the ear" Any one have any suggestions?

Re: Uttar Pradesh: Hontw(?) throat outbreak of half a dozen cattle died

If "foot" and "disease" are in the articles, I would suspect that they are referring to FMD - Foot and Mouth Disease. Could the mangled words be an attempt at "mouth"?

HFMD is an althogether different disease, which affects humans (primarily children) and not animals.

Re: Uttar Pradesh: Hontw(?) throat outbreak of half a dozen cattle died

Yes, thank you alert. I don't think that the foot is related to the disease. For example the phrase "Pasharne feet/Pasharne foot" is used in this article about infrastructure on the India/China border; It's apparantly some idiomatic use that I'm not familiar with maybe like "Hobson's choice" or something like that.

Hindi to English translation
We have given China a chance Pasharne feet! [Posted On Fri 13 Aug 10, 5: 51 PM]
New Delhi, India's former foreign secretary and prime minister's special envoy Shyam Saran said that the neighboring countries of China, we have a chance Pasharne foot. Saran said on Friday in a debate in neighboring countries road transport, rail network, development of pipeline infrastructure, etc. If we do not have some involvement in it will definitely. "It's not fair to say that China develop such structures around us is surrounded us. He said the fact someone would fill the empty space.
Saran told us the border to China to strengthen its own network instead of being worried about his range should strengthen the infrastructure of this kind. We need to firm up the situation yourself. Former foreign secretary said that the pitiful state of our borders. "The infrastructure at the border on I survey four - five years was associated. Our network is quite poor. " He said that the world is rapidly changing. The impact of change on one side to the other end of the world is being felt.
Pakistan, Shyam Saran said about our most time and energy spent on getting your same neighborhood so little attention to our other neighbors are unable to focus. In July this year, Foreign Minister level talks between India and Pakistan of failing, he said when asked about talks with Pakistan have to continue. Co - is necessary for survival. Of Myanmar, he said in the 1980s and 1990s, our relationship with him was interrupted. In the mid-1990s began to restore relations with him.
Noted that Myanmar's military rulers who had recently visited India after the restoration of relations was the second visit. Asked whether talks with China on border dispute while India is under pressure, he said there is nothing like the pressure. While their own strength and weaknesses are our own. We must strengthen ourselves.

Re: Uttar Pradesh: Hontw(?) throat outbreak of half a dozen cattle died

You're right about the feet. Whatever the disease is, it is something they vaccinate against. Perhaps anthrax? That seems to be widespread in Orissa; perhaps Uttar Pradesh as well.

Re: Uttar Pradesh: Hontw(?) throat outbreak of half a dozen cattle died

Anthrax, Johnes are found in UP. So is FMD and it is more prevalent in the winter months, so that's not ruled out.
http://scialert.net/fulltext/?doi=aje.2008.40.46&org=11

Brucellosis is also prevalent and interestingly in a study from 2002 was found in 7% of human fever patients in Varanasi, UP.
http://www.ias.ac.in/jbiosci/nov2008/549.pdf

Q fever has been widespread in both animals and humans in the region.
"Evidence of Q-fever infection was observed in 24.29% of 490 cattle, 16.79% of 536 sheep, 16.02% of 1011 buffaloes, 15.85% of 1937 goats, 14.67% of 184 pigs and 14.29% of 49 street dogs. Twenty percent of 55 dairy cows, 9.52% of 21 dairy goats and 5.71% of 35 dairy buffaloes were found positive for C. burnetii antibodies in their milk. Of 1636 human sera samples tested, 249 (15.22%) were positive. Human sero-positive reactors in U.P. and Delhi were 15.59% and 14.39% respectively."
