LEHI - Utah health officials are taking a closer look at a possible Lyme disease outbreak after a few people complained of Lyme disease symptoms in Lehi. On average, Utah health officials deal with seven to eight cases of Lyme disease a year and in most cases, people contract the disease when they travel to areas where it is prevalent.
A total of 12 cases have been reported in Lehi prompting health officials to form a task force and are currently testing patients to see if they have been exposed. "The test is called an IGM and it does test for Lyme disease among other things, but it does show a lot of false positives, meaning it shows people that have the disease that don't actually," said Lance Madigan of Utah County Health Dept.
