3 die of flu in southwestern Utah; 46 hospitalized

ST. GEORGE, Utah -- Health officials are blaming the flu for three deaths in southern Utah in the past two weeks.

The Southwest Utah Public Health Department says the three victims were all under the age of 65. They're the first deaths reported in the five-county area for the 2013-2014 season.

The department's surveillance nurse, Lisa Starr, says 46 people have been hospitalized with the flu so far, and almost all have the H1N1 strain of the virus responsible for the 2009 pandemic.

She says most of the people in the hospital are under the age of 65.

Starr urges people to get vaccinated if they haven't already.
