Week 44: Sporadic
Minimal Activity
4 new hospitalizations (1 age 0-4; 1 age 5-24; 1 age 25-49; 1 age 65+)
School absenteeism: 4.8%
23.1% specimens tested positive: A(H3)

CDC definition:
Local: Outbreaks of influenza or increases in ILI cases and recent laboratory-confirmed influenza in a single region of the state.

Re: Utah 2010-2011 Season: Weeks 40-4

Re: Utah 2010-2011 Season: Weeks 40-4

Week 4: minimal activity

6 new hospitalizations; total 288
62% positive specimens for influenza (mainly A/H3)
School absenteeism per 100 students: 5.1
Extreme drop in ILI (Upon further review of UT data, ILI was elevated in week 2 due to only two health districts reporting. In week 3, it was probably close to where it should be, because Bear River Health District reported in with "high/intense" activity. In week 4, Bear River Health District did not report, thus lowering ILI.)

Here is the latest isolates chart. Overall %ILI levels in Utah are low and decreasing, but pH1N1 has just started to be detected in any numbers.

Re: Utah 2010-2011 Season: Weeks 40-5 (No New Deaths, Total 5)

Utah has gone from "sporadic" activity (week 1) to "local" activity (week 2) back to "sporadic" activity (weeks 3,4,5) while recording numerous hospitalizations and deaths along the way.

* No Activity: No laboratory-confirmed cases of influenza and no reported increase in the number of cases of ILI.
* Sporadic: Small numbers of laboratory-confirmed influenza cases or a single laboratory-confirmed influenza outbreak has been reported, but there is no increase in cases of ILI.
* Local: Outbreaks of influenza or increases in ILI cases and recent laboratory-confirmed influenza in a single region of the state.
* Regional:Outbreaks of influenza or increases in ILI and recent laboratory confirmed influenza in at least two but less than half the regions of the state with recent laboratory evidence of influenza in those regions.

* Widespread:Outbreaks of influenza or increases in ILI cases and recent laboratory-confirmed influenza in at least half the regions of the state with recent laboratory evidence of influenza in the state.
