The Southern Nevada Health District is reporting two new cases of West Nile virus in Clark County residents. Both have the more serious, neuroinvasive form of the illness. One individual is a female over the age of 50, and the other is a male under the age of 50. These new cases bring the year?s total to eight. Six of the eight West Nile cases reported to the Health District had neuroinvasive illness.

The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health confirmed Monday the first two cases of West Nile Virus in the region this year.

The patents are residents of the San Fernando Valley and the southeastern region of L.A. County, according to the public health department.

West Nile is spread by the bite of an infected mosquito, and symptoms may include fever, headache, nausea, body aches and a mild skin rash, health officials say. The virus can affect the nervous system and result in meningitis, encephalitis, paralysis and even death.

The new cases were reported in Forrest and Lamar counties. Three previous cases were reported in Smith, Hinds and Copiah counties in July.

confirmed human case of West Nile virus in Illinois for 2019. A Chicago resident in his 70s

Public health officials announced Tuesday that they have recently confirmed Butte County?s first human case of West Nile virus for 2019.

The infected person was an adult who had suffered fever-like symptoms, the Butte County Public Health Department said in a news release.

The Butte County infection is at least the 11th human case of the mosquito-borne virus this year across California, with the state West Nile virus website showing 10 prior human infections reported as of last Friday.

The number of West Nile virus cases rose across the United States last year, killing 167 people, according to data released Thursday by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Experts say the increase, while small, underscores the need to protect against mosquitoes during the hot summer months.

LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -- The Southern Nevada Health District reported a total of 28 cases of West Nile Virus in Clark County so far in 2019, the highest count in a season since the illness was first detected in the state in 2004.

Montana reports season?s first human cases of West Nile Virus
State and local public health officials are reporting the season?s first human West Nile Virus (WNV) cases in Montana. The cases, reported in Custer and Lewis and Clark counties, both occurred in individuals over the age of 60, who are often at greater risk for severe disease.

West Nile virus detected in Utah County; Human cases reported in Grand, Carbon counties

SALT LAKE CITY ? Mosquitoes in Utah County tested positive for West Nile virus, and human cases of the disease were reported Grand and Carbon counties, authorities said Thursday.

The Utah County Health Department Mosquito Abatement District detected the virus in a group, or pool, of mosquitoes in the Footprinter Park area in Provo, the department said Thursday in a news release.

No human cases of the virus have been reported in Utah County, but a third human case was reported in Grand County, the Southeast Utah Health Department said in an emailed news release Thursday.

Mosquitoes test positive for West Nile virus in second Coconino County location

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. ? Coconino County Health and Human Services (CCHHS) officials confirmed a second mosquito pool has tested positive for West Nile virus (WNV). The mosquito sample was taken from the Cheshire area in northwest Flagstaff.

Recently, a mosquito sample from an area south of Lake Mary Road in Flagstaff tested positive for WNV. No human cases have been reported in Coconino County since 2010 when two human cases where identified.

First two human cases of West Nile virus reported in Riverside County

Health officials confirmed on Thursday the first two human cases of West Nile virus in Riverside County.

Both individuals, a 65-year-old Mecca woman and 71-year-old Coachella man, are expected to recover, according to Riverside University Health System.

It's not rare for mosquitoes to transmit the virus to humans in Southern California.

A 44-year-old Fulton County woman was diagnosed with West Nile virus, the first human case in the county this year.

Fulton?s board of health announced the diagnosis late Wednesday afternoon. In a statement, the county said the diagnosis was verified by a local hospital, but gave no more information about the case.

EL PASO, Texas - Three more cases of the West Nile virus have been confirmed in El Paso, bringing the total up to 13 for the season.

The 11th case is a man in his early 80?s, the 12th is a woman in her early 30?s, and the 13th case is a man in his late 80?s.

2,516 mosquito samples from 24 counties have tested positive for WNV in 2019.

A mosquito sample may contain up to 50 individual mosquitoes.

OLYMPIA ? A human case of West Nile virus (WNV) has been reported by Benton-Franklin Health District ? the first case of WNV in Washington this year. Health officials advise people to take action to avoid being bitten by mosquitoes as WNV is currently circulating in several counties in Washington. In addition to the human case, who was likely exposed to mosquito bites in Franklin or Walla Walla County, WNV has been detected this summer in mosquitos from Benton, Grant, and Yakima counties. In past years, WNV has been detected across the state. In Washington, WNV season starts as early as July and can last until early October.

The New Mexico Department of Health has reported five more cases of West Nile virus throughout the state.

The first case was reported in early August, and as of Friday, officials have confirmed cases in Bernalillo, Dona Ana, San Juan and Valencia counties.

Five of the six cases this year resulted in neuroinvasive disease, which is the most severe form of the disease. All six patients survived the infection.

In 2018, there were seven cases in New Mexico, and in 2017, there were 33.

WELD COUNTY, Colo. ? Two people in Weld County have been diagnosed with West Nile virus, the first human cases in the county this year.

Neither of the adults who were infected were hospitalized and both are at home recovering, according to a release from the Weld County Department of Public Health and Environment.

4 West Nile virus cases confirmed in NYC: Health Department

Four people in New York City have contracted West Nile virus so far this year ? and two of them are still in the hospital, the city?s Health Department said Thursday.

Two of the reported West Nile cases were in Queens, one was found on Staten Island and one was found in Brooklyn, according to the department; two of the people who contracted the virus have since been released from the hospital.

Health Commissioner Oxiris Barbot on Thursday warned residents to take steps to avoid mosquito bites.

BOSTON ?Public health officials in Massachusetts have confirmed the state's first human case of West Nile virus this season.

The state Department of Public Health said Wednesday that the mosquito-borne illness was confirmed in a man in his 60s from Middlesex County who required hospitalization.

First death from West Nile Virus recorded in Ohio

TOLEDO (WTVG) - For the first time in 2019, a human victim of West Nile Virus has died of the disease in Lucas County, according to the Lucas County Health Department. This is also the first death from the disease in the state this year.

According to The Toledo- Lucas County Health Department, the patient is a 68-year-old man, with underlying health issues, who passed away after he was hospitalized for encephalitis, or swelling of the brain.
