Residents of the southern Plains are again on alert for wildfires with a dangerous fire situation unfolding.
The most extreme fire threat exists over New Mexico and western Texas.

A high fire threat spans several states from the Southwest to the southern High Plains due to howling winds. These states include Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas
