Historically speaking week 10 is the peak of the influenza season in the US.
Pneumonia and Influenza (P&I) Mortality Surveillance
During week 7, 7.4% of all deaths reported through the 122-Cities Mortality Reporting System were due to P&I. This percentage was below the epidemic threshold of 7.9% for week 7.
If the trend conforms to past years, is this because the vaccine for A/H1N1 and the number of people who have been infected (which would total 1/2 of the US population, approximately) have together muted the effect of the pandemic for these particular weeks? Of course, future waves are unpredictable and another one could occur again.
