DEFIANCE COUNTY, OH (WTOL) -
The Ohio Department of Health reports that a 74-year-old Defiance County man has died from West Nile virus.
This is the first West Nile death in Ohio for 2017.
ODH said the man had been hospitalized with encephalitis.
There were four West Nile deaths in Ohio in 2016.

FORT COLLINS, Colo. (KKTV) - The first death in Colorado from the West Nile Virus this year has been confirmed in Fort Collins.
The deceased is one of four in Larimer County to have contracted the virus this year. Two of the ill reportedly have the most-serious, neuroinvasive form.

Oklahoma Oklahoma records 1st West Nile virus death of 2017

OKLAHOMA CITY – State health officials say Oklahoma has recorded its first death from West Nile virus this year.
The Oklahoma State Department of Health says the death occurred in Pottawatomie County. So far in 2017, instances of the illness have been reported in Bryan, Cleveland, Muskogee, Oklahoma, Pottawatomie and Tulsa counties.

Alabama health officials say there have been nine cases of West Nile Virus in the state this year and several more reported cases are being investigated.
According to the Alabama Department of Public Health, one person has died from the mosquito-borne illness.
