A passenger on board American Airlines Flight 2984 from Chicago tells NBC12 the plane sat on the tarmac for more than an hour. That passenger says the pilot told them they were operating under their Ebola protocol because a mother and her two children had to be taken off the plane.

We're told a teen passenger had a high fever and abdominal pain. The family began its trip in Nigeria before eventually making their way to Chicago and finally to Richmond.

The woman and her two children were taken off the plane in masks. Witnesses say several ambulances and people in hazmat suits were seen outside of the plane.

When Henrico Fire and EMS arrived at the airport, they followed CDC protocol for Ebola screening. Ebola was eventually ruled out, airport spokesman Troy Bell said.

The passenger had not recently traveled to any country being monitored by the Centers for Disease Control following the Ebola outbreak.
