US-Texas: Not a confirmed case - Frisco (suburb Dallas) patient exhibiting Ebola symptoms - deputy who entered Duncan's apartment - blood test negati

Another thing to consider is how many people have Western docs really seen when they first begin to develop Ebola symptoms? Not many. Most in West Africa likely only seek help after they are significantly ill.

I wouldn't be surprised if a little stomach upset was common in West Africa. For a Westerner who may almost never get sick to suddenly develop symptoms after being in a fomite-covered room of a confirmed Ebola patient is indeed worrisome to me.

I wonder if Duncan's family might be as-yet-asymptomatic carriers. They may not have had a fever or other overt symptoms, but I don't think we really know enough about the progression of infectiousness to definitively say they were not contagious. I also wonder if they are having regular PCR testing, and if so, how often. We know PCR isn't accurate in early stages.

PCR is accurate but less informative in very early viremia due to low viral titer.

PATIENT WHO EXHIBITED SIGNS OF EBOLA NOT FROM FRISCO;
URGENT CARE FACILTY TO CLOSE FOR DECONTAMINATION

(October 8, 2014) Frisco authorities confirm the patient -- who was transported from a Frisco urgent care facility after he showed symptoms of Ebola -- is not a Frisco resident but lives in The Colony. Frisco authorities also confirm The Colony resident does not have children enrolled in the Frisco Independent School District (FISD). Fourteen other people, including clinic staff and facility patrons, were interviewed by Denton County health officials and ultimately released.

The patient was transported to Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas. Frisco firefighters were decontaminated by hospital staff at Texas Health Presbyterian in Dallas in accordance with Centers for Disease Control (CDC). The firefighters have been sent home and will not be treating patients for 48 hours, as a precautionary measure. The ambulance is being evaluated for decontaminated, according to CDC protocols.

Earlier today, Oct. 8 ? 12:32 p.m., Frisco dispatch received a 911 call from Care Now, 301 W. Main Street (located near the intersection of F.M. 423 in Denton County), from clinic staff about a patient who showed signs of Ebola. Frisco Fire Department?s Hazardous Materials (HAZMAT) and Rescue Units, along with two ambulances, the regional Ambulance Bus responded.

This evening, the City of Frisco received word from Care Now administrators the urgent care facility will close tonight and remain closed until Friday morning while the facility undergoes deep cleaning.

Frisco is working with health experts from Denton and Collin County Health Departments, as well as the Texas Department of Emergency Management.

?Denton County Health Department has been in constant contact with health care professionals at Dallas Presbyterian and the Texas Department of State Health Services to investigate a report of an Ebola contact,? said Dr. Matt Richardson, DrPH, MPH, Director, Denton County Health Department. ?At this time, we do not classify this Frisco patient as a contact and do not believe he fits the definition of a contact to Ebola. Because of the absence of contact to the Ebola patient or anyone symptomatic with Ebola, we see no threat to the public?s health regarding this individual. We follow the guidelines from CDC when evaluating these contacts, and public health officials collectively see no risk of Ebola to the general public regarding this person, his family or any facility at this time. ?

?Frisco firefighter-paramedics are trained and equipped to respond to infectious diseases and hazardous materials,? said Chief Mark Piland. ?It?s what we do and we?re prepared to protect our residents and the public.?

?Public safety is our top priority,? said Mayor Maher Maso. ?Our community has invested a great amount of resources to ensure we have top notch public safety services. We?re confident in our first responders? ability to do just that and are proud of their response today.?

I can't find where it is on one of the threads, but I remember reading that they had tested all the high risk contacts, that those tests were negative, and that because nobody was symptomatic, they weren't planning any more testing at that time.

Does anyone know if he is one of the five officers put on leave during the Duncan case? Did we ever find out why they were put on leave?
