AVIANO AIR BASE, Italy ? A woman died Oct. 17 in the base hospital after giving birth, base officials said.

First Lt. Kimberley Schaerdel, chief of public affairs for the 31st Fighter Wing, would not release details about the woman ? a civilian married to a U.S. airman. She said the hospital is unable to provide such information because the death is under investigation and the woman?s husband does not want her identity made public.

Some news about a deceased U.S. Aviano Air Base resident woman circulated in local newspaper here in Veneto Region (I would remember that Aviano is located in neighbor region of Friuli Venezia Giulia).

The story was a bit confused and the precise nature of the incident behind the woman death was not further clarified both by Italian police and U.S. spokesperson.

It may be also the case that the woman found dead near Air Base wasn't the same cited in the above piece of news.
