Teleconference notes:

CDC is announcing a situation of person to person spread in the US

Immediate risk to the general public is low

Have already seen transmission to close contacts of people infected from China related people

2nd case in Illinois, is a Chicago resident and is the spouse of the China travel related patient, between 2 very close contacts - a wife and husband

Not recommending general public to take additional precautions

People in Illinois are at low risk.

21 patients under investigation in Illinois

Actively monitoring all close contacts

Not spreading widely in communities

Woman in her 60s who returned from Wuhan, China is Illinois' 1st patient. The 2nd case is her husband. He was exposed to his spouse while she was symptomatic.

CDC conducts ill passenger screening in all 20 CDC traveler stations

Everyone entering from China will get a info card

Very serious public health situation, looking to see more cases, will be more person to person spread of close contacts

Does not recommend face mask use for general public

If you are a traveler from the impacted area be alert to fever and cough, and/or if you are a contact of a confirmed case contact health provider

Wash hands, cover your cough, take care of yourself, stay aware of the situation

How to gauge degree of illness? Information about degree of illness - seeing that it starts with fever, shortness of breath, more severe in older adults and those with underlying diseases.

Inculation period is still estimated to be 2 - 14 days

The husband did not travel. Reaching out to his contacts. He did not attend mass gatherings.
