"Isolated outside the hospital" sounds odd to me too. Hopefully, confused initial reports that will soon become clearer.

The 111 Grossman Drive location:

The Braintree practice of Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates has been caring for residents of Braintree, Weymouth, Randolph, Quincy, and other nearby cities and towns since 1983. The office is conveniently located off of the Union Street exit of Route 3 and an easy walk from the Braintree T stop.

Our Braintree practice provides primary care for adults and children and a full range of medical and surgical specialty care. Our preferred hospital partners include South Shore Hospital, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital - Milton, and Boston Children’s Hospital.

(added)
Braintree Hours of Operation

Our building is open from 7:30am – 7:30pm during the week (6:00pm on Fridays).

So...definately not a 24/7 hospital

Zanca toldThe Boston Heraldthat the urgent care offices on Grossman Drive were evacuated after the patient turned up at 1:30 p.m. Sunday with a headache.

John Monahan of Fox 25 reports that the patient had recently traveled to Liberia, and came to the facility to refill a prescription. He then reportedly returned to his car before clinic staff ran out after him to prevent him from leaving.

Possible Ebola diagnosis in Massachusetts medical clinic

A patient has been diagnosed with possible Ebola symptoms in a medical center located about 100 miles from Springfield.

NECN is reporting Harvard Vanguard Medical Center has isolated a patient with symptoms of the deadly disease. The patient had recently traveled to West Africa.

Little information has been released but the Braintree Fire Department confirmed hazardous materials crews, emergency medical services and firefighters are all at the center.

The medical center, located at 111 Grossman Drive offers primary care for adults and children and a full range of medical and surgical specialty care. The center has Sunday office hours from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., according to the center's website.

A Brewster ambulance left with the patient just before 4 p.m., with a police escort. The ambulance driver was wearing a hazmat suit and a facemask. The convoy’s destination could not be immediately confirmed. A second person was later brought out on a stratcher in a hazmat suit and placed in a second ambulance.

“They just told him [an unrelated patient at the facility] this is going to be a long process, be prepared, you might stay overnight,” said Marini, who’d run into a nearby Kmart to get him a drink, only to find the clinic swarmed by emergency responders when she returned.

Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates Statement

Posted on October 12, 2014 by Harvard Vanguard
<!-- .entry-meta -->
A patient who had been to Liberia presented himself today at the Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates Braintree practice complaining of headache and muscle aches. Out of an abundance of caution we immediately notified authorities and the patient was securely removed from the building and put into an ambulance now headed to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. The building was closed briefly but has now re-opened. We are working closely with the Department of Public Health who will determine next steps.

Looking at the "gallery" with the story, that man apears to be the ambulance driver. So maybe he hasn't YET come into contact with the patient.

Re: US- Massachusetts: Man With Ebola-Like Symptoms hospitalized in Boston

"Dr. Kenneth Sands, senior vice president of the department of health care and quality at Beth Israel Deaconess, said in a news conference Sunday evening that medical staff would assess the man?s symptoms over the next few hours and would test him for Ebola if appropriate."

...

"On Sunday afternoon, public safety officials briefly closed Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates in Braintree, because of the patient complained of a headache and muscle aches, according to a statement from Benjamin Kruskal, chief of infectious disease for the practice."

I hope you're right, Denise, and definitely feel like there needs to be a lot more education for first responders of all kinds in this.

The rest -- a "headache and body aches?" I mean, he has the travel history, it's not that I don't think we should be cautious, but this kind of thing also makes me think that flu season is upon us and is going to be really, really rough. People from Liberia/Guinea/Sierra Leone also get the flu. Or sometimes have headaches. Lord knows, my allergies are nuts right now.

I don't know that this is a false alarm in particular; I hope so but don't guarantee anything ever, with this sort of thing. But the sheer number of false alarms is going to be hard for a lot of our medical systems to handle regardless.
