US - Florida: Search warrant served on a person who runs a COVID-19 coronavirus data site - December 7, 2020

snip

Florida Department of Law Enforcement spokeswoman Gretl Plessinger sent a statement confirming the seizure of computer equipment at Jones's Tallahassee home and said agents are investigating.

"FDLE began an investigation November 10, 2020, after receiving a complaint from the Department of Health regarding unauthorized access to a Department of Health messaging system which is part of an emergency alert system, to be used for emergencies only," Plessinger said.

Plessinger said when agents arrived, they knocked and waited 20 minutes for Jones to answer the door.

"Ms. Jones refused to come to the door for 20 minutes and h u n g -up on agents. After several attempts and verbal notifications that law enforcement officers were there to serve a legal search warrant, Ms. Jones eventually came to the door and allowed agents to enter," Plessinger said. "Ms. Jones' family was upstairs when agents made entry into the home."

The investigation is active, she added.

Stalking Case Against Fired Florida Health Data Scientist To Drag Into August

Health News Florida | By Stephany Matat / Fresh Take Florida
Published July 23, 2020 at 8:03 AM EDT

A misdemeanor criminal stalking case against the self-described whistleblower at the center of a politically charged dispute over Florida’s COVID-19 disclosures will continue into August, a circuit judge in Tallahassee ruled Wednesday.

snip

In a teleconference early Wednesday, the judge agreed to a defense motion to set the next hearing in the case for Aug. 26. Jones’ lawyer, Robert Morris of Tallahassee, told the judge in June he was close to an agreement with prosecutors, but it was unclear whether that would result in a guilty plea or charges being dismissed. The assistant state attorney, McLane Edwards, did not return phone messages over two days.

Police said she published an explicit 68-page document online discussing private details of the 2017 relationship. At the time, Jones was the man's professor at Florida State University and married.

Her gofundme page says she has raised $237,430 this year. (which is not listed in the wikipedia article).

---------------------------------------------

As for me, I have never used her page because she says she uses the Florida Department of Health numbers as a baseline and I can already obtain those - plus, I think all numbers are approximate at this point.

I think all government numbers are off and they only begin to get the idea of what is going on when they track the hospitalizations.

As for FluTrackers...well...we do not access any special or private Florida Department of Health databases. We use the publicly available information seen by everyone.

I have a general distrust of all government numbers at this point. I have been saying for months that as the pandemic drags on the numbers are more and more fuzzy. It is "fog of pandemic". In fact, we stopped global daily data collection in mid-September. I do not investigate any extra number sites in the world. I like Johns Hopkins and Covidtracking.com for general trends.

Also, while we are a charity and can legally solicit donations, our project does not ask for money. Raising large sums of money can be a beacon for trouble. Since we do not ask for any money, operate any fund raisers, make high profile national interviews, we are both boring and not controversial.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Apparently a lot of twitter "influencers" are calling for donations to her.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

For me, she is not a whistleblower. She is stating the obvious. Florida's official numbers are off. All government numbers are inaccurate. We have been warning people for months to use the official numbers for trends only. So when the official Florida DoH site shows, for instance, 8,000 new cases - I think to myself...ok....so...somewhere in the neighborhood of 7,000 new tests positive with the possibility of new cases - mostly not tested at all - of 80,000. That is a huge range....7k-80k. So you can see why I do not think it is whistleblowing to point out the swings in the counts. But hey...she is certainly getting a lot of publicity and $$$.

And to the deaths, again FluTrackers offers condolences for everyone affected by this loss. Many people taken before their natural time. The death numbers are no better than the case numbers. We actually have no idea of the real count. We will only know after the pandemic is over and we can look back with an analytical approach.

As for me in Florida. I watch the trends and act accordingly. I am high risk so I take all precautions.

See this?

From yesterday, Tuesday, December 8, 2020:

snip

Meanwhile in Central Florida, several counties broke records with new cases reported Tuesday but Orange County reported negative 1,750 cases, as well as negative hospitalizations and deaths.

News 6 has reached out to the Florida Department of Health requesting clarification on the significant decrease in Orange County’s coronavirus data. A spokesperson with the department responded saying they are looking into the dataset.

https://www.clickorlando.com/news/lo...ovid-19-cases/

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is why you can not believe any set of numbers as 100% correct and why I interpret for myself a range of numbers. All of the government numbers, all over the world, float around. The number sets are getting too large - in real time - for accuracy given all the various hospital/city/county/state collection and reporting methods. There are mistakes and manipulations. Accidental and purposeful.

So anyone who tells you they have the "real" numbers....well....

Data Scientist Rebekah Jones, Facing Arrest, Turns Herself In To Florida Authorities

Updated at 11:45 a.m. ET

Rebekah Jones, the data scientist who helped create Florida's COVID-19 dashboard, has turned herself in to police, in response to an arrest warrant issued by the state.

Jones is charged with one count of "offenses against users of computers, computer systems, computer networks and electronic devices," the Florida Department of Law Enforcement said in a statement Monday.

Jones has said she lost her job after refusing requests to manipulate data to suggest Florida was ready to ease coronavirus restrictions. Jones says she's being punished for continuing to speak out about how Gov. Ron DeSantis is handling COVID-19, citing her arrest and a raid on her home last month.

This person has been interviewed a few more times and her funding page (which she is apparently closing?) shows that she has raised over $300,000. I have no idea whether her numbers are correct or not but she has certainly raised a lot of money.

I do not believe the state of Florida official numbers either. They are only to be viewed for trend analysis.
