U.S. doctor quarantines himself at home after treating Ebola patients in Liberia

MTI declined to discuss details of how Jamison traveled back to the United States, including whether he was on a commercial flight.

Jamison, 69, said he's had no symptoms of the deadly virus, but has been in seclusion since he returned to his hometown of Morristown, Tennessee.

He plans to be in isolation for 21 days, which is the incubation period for the disease -- or the time between infection and onset of symptoms.

"My last encounter with a patient who had Ebola was on July 19," he said. "I contacted the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on my arrival ... and informed them I had been in West Africa and my history."

"I was not concerned that I was contagious when I left Africa, and not concerned at this time because I have no symptoms of the disease," Jamison said.

Patient at Mount Sinai Has Ebola-Like Symptoms, Hospital Says

A hospital spokeswoman, Dorie Klissas, said that to protect the patient?s privacy the hospital was not making public his occupation, which country he had been in, whether he had been exposed to a patient with Ebola there, or whether he had close contacts like family members, friends or co-workers who were also at risk. Ms. Klissas said the patient?s blood was being tested for Ebola, but she declined to say when the test results would be available.

?We will continue to work closely with federal, state and city health officials to address and monitor this case, keep the community informed and provide the best quality care to all of our patients,? she said in an email.

As to whether other patients who were in Mount Sinai?s emergency room on Sunday night were at risk, Ms. Klissas said by email, ?All necessary steps are being taken to ensure the safety of all patients, visitors and staff.? But she declined to say what those steps were.

New York City Hospital Says Patient 'Unlikely' to Have Ebola

?After consultation with CDC and Mount Sinai, the [NYC] Health Department has concluded that the patient is unlikely to have Ebola. Specimens are being tested for common causes of illness and to definitively exclude Ebola,? according to a department spokesperson.

ABC News chief health and medical editor Dr. Richard Besser said the patient?s symptoms don?t necessarily point to Ebola, but Mount Sinai was following precautionary recommendations sent out by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention last week.

?Many things cause fever and gastrointestinal symptoms,? Besser said. ?The steps they are taking are wise given the travel history, but nothing about the symptoms is specific to Ebola.?

6 people tested for Ebola in NYC

At least six people have been tested for Ebola in New York City in addition to a patient who was isolated amid fears he contracted the deadly virus on a trip to West Africa, according to CNN.

“There have been about a half a dozen patients who have had their blood tested because of concern, those particular patients their stories were not made public,” said CNN’s Dr. Sanjay Gupta. “I’m not sure if that’s because of heightened concern by the hospital or what that means exactly.”

Gupta also suggested that the six patients tested for the Ebola virus were not being kept in isolation.

“This isn’t the kind of thing that they worry about spreading to other patients in the hospital, spreading to people who are walking around the hospital,” Gupta said. “This is not an airborne virus.”

Mt. Sinai’s other six patients tested negative, CNN said. Another patient was isolated at Bellevue Hospital last week after arriving from a trip to West Africa with symptoms. He was screened at John F. Kennedy International Airport and taken to the hospital. But his fever cleared up within a day — and it was determined that he had not caught Ebola.

Mount Sinai Hospital: Patient In Isolation Does Not Have Ebola

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — The Mount Sinai Hospital patient who has been in isolation since Monday does not have the Ebola virus, hospital officials said Wednesday afternoon.

“We would like to report that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have determined that the patient kept in isolation since Monday, August 4, 2014 at The Mount Sinai Hospital has tested negative for Ebola Virus Disease (EVD),” the hospital said in a statement. “The patient is in stable condition, is improving, and remains in the care of our physicians and nurses.”

Patient in isolation at Freehold hospital amid heightened Ebola concerns

FREEHOLD ? One person is in isolation and under evaluation at CentraState Medical Center with flu-like symptoms after returning from West Africa amid heightened concerns about the Ebola outbreak, officials said Tuesday.

Health officials said the patient, who was not identified, had no known contact with Ebola and did not say if they traveled to a specific country where the outbreak is centered.

"This patient is experiencing mild symptoms and has improved since last night, making the patient more likely to be experiencing any of a myriad of other common illnesses," the state's Department of Health said in a statement. "The patient remains in isolation as a precaution and under evaluation as further tests are administered."

On Monday, the patient was taken by ambulance to the hospital and brought to an isolation room designed for management of infectious diseases, the hospital said in a statement...

Six Alabama college students stuck in Liberia

MONROVIA, Liberia (NBC) -- Six American college students are stuck in Liberia, one of the countries at the heart of the Ebola outbreak.

The students are in the Liberian capital of Monrovia as part of a Tuskegee University study abroad program. The university said in a statement Wednesday that they were in good spirits, in a safe location and not ill.

The details were not clear, but the university said that the students were "in the process of making reservations" for a return flight, booked through Ghana. Some airlines have canceled flights to and from West Africa because of the outbreak.
