Overview:
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is working to prepare U.S. healthcare facilities to safely manage persons under investigation (PUI) for Ebola virus disease (Ebola). Prompt diagnostic assessment, laboratory testing, and provision of appropriate care are essential in preventing transmission of Ebola to healthcare workers and other patients. To assist with the evaluation of persons in the U.S. under investigation for Ebola, CDC provides a consultation service to state and local public health officials and healthcare providers. In addition, Emory Healthcare has developed methods for PUI management that combine hospital preparedness with triage and outpatient evaluation. During this COCA Call, participants will learn about components of domestic surveillance that rapidly identify and monitor travelers, assess symptoms, and isolate PUI for Ebola in the U.S. so they receive appropriate medical care.
