Lacalle announced that 32 new cases of Covid-19 were registered and the number reached 456
The President reported that 448 analyzes were carried out during this conference, of which 416 were negative; and commented that, to "fill" the capacity of CTI beds, infections should reach 8,700 cases.
04/08/2020 20:29

President Luis Lacalle Pou gave a press conference on Wednesday to update the data on the state of the situation of the Covid-19 pandemic in Uruguay.

According to the president, 448 analyzes were carried out during this day, with 416 negatives and 32 positives. Of the positive cases, 22 correspond to the "Vilardeb? vector", as the president called the patients admitted to that hospital who were diagnosed.

Therefore, the total number of infected people rose to 456. About 192 patients managed to recover from the disease. Fourteen patients are in intensive care and four in intermediate care. 61 cases correspond to health personnel.

So far, there have been 7 deaths from the Coronavirus COVID-19, 6 in Montevideo and 1 in Maldonado.

The health situation, said the hierarch, is made up of the number of tests and positive cases, and that, in this sense, the government can make a "rough estimate" of how many infections "Uruguay would need" to occupy all the beds CTI.

"Today we have 382 fields available out of the 622. Without counting these, we should have 8,700 infections to have the capacity fully supplied. We should have these cases to have all beds occupied. Obviously we are far away," he said.

Uruguay reaches 473 cases of COVID-19
Updated 2020-04-10 08:54:26 | Spanish. xinhuanet. com

MONTEVIDEO, April 9 (Xinhua) - Uruguay confirmed 17 new positives on Tuesday and reached 473 cases of COVID-19, seven of them fatal, according to the report released tonight by the National Emergency System (Sinae).

This Thursday, 681 analyzes of the new coronavirus were processed, the highest number of tests in a day since the health emergency was declared with the confirmation of the first cases, on March 13.

Thirteen patients are hospitalized in intensive care and four in intermediate care, the Sinae report detailed.

So far, 206 diagnosed patients have been recovered and 6,856 diagnostic tests have been processed.

There are confirmed cases in 13 of the 19 Uruguayan departments, although most are in Montevideo and Canelones, which concentrate more than half of the population.

The President of the Republic, Luis Lacalle Pou, announced on Wednesday that classes in a large part of rural schools will resume on April 22, but he did not define a resumption date for the rest of the schools and other educational systems.

Lacalle said that "if one sees the rate of contagion" and "the rate of recovery, nothing makes one think, if this citizen agreement (to comply with prevention measures) continues to be followed, that we are facing a surge of cases."

According to a projection that the president managed, to fill the intensive care beds that the health system has -622 in total- the number of cases in Uruguay should climb to 8,700.

With the health emergency, the prohibition of public shows, the suspension of teaching classes and the closure of large shopping malls were decreed and "social isolation" was called for.

Throughout Easter, known locally as Tourism Week, access to beaches and recreational walks were closed to discourage crowds.

In response to the pandemic, the government announced the creation of the Coronavirus Fund to meet health and social needs, which will be nourished by contributions of cuts in high state wages, profits of public companies and loans from multilateral credit organizations.

494 positive cases of COVID-19 confirmed in Uruguay
This Friday, April 10, 640 COVID-19 tests were carried out, with 21 positive results, bringing the number of people affected in the country to 494.

The Secretary of the Presidency of the Republic, ?lvaro Delgado, reported that since March 13, the day the health emergency was decreed, 7,496 tests have been carried out with 494 positive cases and 15 in CTI.

It also indicated that there are 214 people recovered and seven deceased.

On the other hand, the Government indicated that 66 cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed in health personnel.

The departments in which cases of people with ongoing infection are found are: Montevideo (167 cases), Canelones (37 cases), Maldonado (13 cases), Salto (9), R?o Negro and Soriano, both with five cases, Lavalleja ( 4), San Jos? (2) and Paysand? and Rivera both with one case.

Test

When asked about the statements of President Luis Lacalle Pou, who stated that 8,700 infections should be reached so that the health services are overwhelmed, and if this encompasses "the current under-registration due to the fact that the tests have not been massive and is not included to the asymptomatic ”, Delgado responded:“ we reaffirm what President Lacalle and the Committee of Public Health experts have said ”.

“We are not going to reach that maximum situation. I am convinced that we are not going to get there, beyond all the measures that the government takes, and also because of the commitment of the people who are aware that they have to make the effort, ”he remarked.

For his part, the Health Minister, Miguel Salinas, said 97% of those tested are negative, even with symptoms. "For every 100 tests carried out, three are positive and 97 are negative, which gives us the guideline that many of them are asymptomatic or are contacts that were swabbed preventively for notable cases. They are being carried out with an epidemiological and study notion focused on a focus and that does not expand ”.
