Eastern Health announced today there has been another death due to complications related to the H1N1 influenza at one of its hospitals.
In a news release, the health authority stated it ?regrets to inform the public of the death of a 58-year-old woman due to complications related to the H1N1 influenza on Tuesday, Nov. 10, at an Eastern Health facility.?
At a briefing today to update media on the H1N1 influenza, Health Minister Jerome Kennedy, and Dr. Faith Stratton, Chief Medical Officer of Health, noted the woman had no underlying health issues.
No further information will be released for reasons of patient confidentiality and out of respect for the woman?s family.

?On behalf of Eastern Health, I offer condolences to the patient?s family and friends,? Kaminski said. ?Losing a loved one is never easy and our thoughts and prayers are with them during this difficult time.?
Kennedy and Stratton also released updated numbers on patients being treated for H1N1 influenza in the province.

Sixth H1N1-related death in N.L.

Last Updated: Thursday, November 12, 2009 | 4:16 PM NT

CBC News

Newfoundland and Labrador has recorded its sixth death related to H1N1 influenza.

Health officials said Thursday that a woman, 58, died at an Eastern Health Authority facility on Tuesday.

They said she did not have underlying health conditions.

That means she is the second person in Newfoundland and Labrador without underlying health conditions to die after contracting swine flu.

Officials said a 48-year-old man from central Newfoundland who died Nov. 8 after contracting H1N1, also did not have underlying medical conditions that would have contributed to his death.

The health authority said it was withholding other information the woman who died Tuesday out of respect for patient confidentiality and her family.

Eastern Health provides health-care services for the eastern part of Newfoundland, including St. John's.

The province's fifth and fourth H1N1-related deaths happened Sunday. Four of the six people who have died were residents of central Newfoundland.

Provincial Health Minister Jerome Kennedy said the woman who died Tuesday lived in eastern Newfoundland.

Health Minister Jerome Kennedy said Monday that the province is reviewing how each of Newfoundland and Labrador's four health authorities has handled this fall's swine flu outbreak.
