Eastern Health announced today there has been another death due to complications related to the H1N1 influenza at one of its hospitals.
In a news release, the health authority stated it ?regrets to inform the public of the death of a 58-year-old woman due to complications related to the H1N1 influenza on Tuesday, Nov. 10, at an Eastern Health facility.?
At a briefing today to update media on the H1N1 influenza, Health Minister Jerome Kennedy, and Dr. Faith Stratton, Chief Medical Officer of Health, noted the woman had no underlying health issues.
No further information will be released for reasons of patient confidentiality and out of respect for the woman?s family.
Vickie Kaminski, President and CEO of Eastern Health, extended condolences to family and friends of the deceased.
?On behalf of Eastern Health, I offer condolences to the patient?s family and friends,? Kaminski said. ?Losing a loved one is never easy and our thoughts and prayers are with them during this difficult time.?
Kennedy and Stratton also released updated numbers on patients being treated for H1N1 influenza in the province.
In the past day, there have been 30 new admissions to hospitals ? eight of which were placed in ICU, and two on ventilators.
The total for the province now stands at 134 people in hospital with influenza-like illnesses ? 36 in ICU and 20 on ventilators.
