IOWA CITY, Iowa (KGAN/KFXA) -- Flames still burn at the Iowa City landfill, now in its second full day.

?We?re hoping three to ten [days], but we don?t have experience with a fire like this. It could go longer,? says Rick Fosse, Iowa City Public Works Director.

The fire started Saturday night after a hot load of garbage was dropped off....

This fire is still burning and blanketing a neighborhood with foul smoke. Firefighters are going to try a stir, burn and cover method. It might produce even more smoke before the fire is out.

The very large Iowa city landfill fire that has been going on for a week and a half has become a cause of yet another problem for the city and the residents around the location of the landfill.

The landfill is producing a petroleum-based product that is very highly combustible as a byproduct of the fire from the fuel that it has been burning. ...
