United States - Uptick in Hospitalizations, Severity of Disease, Quick Death Thread

Commonground

Senior Moderator
This thread will capture States that have a large uptick in hospitalizations or deaths inside a weeks time. As the weeks go by, States may drop off of this thread. Or...we can continue to keep an eye on them, and carry statistics from previous weeks, into new posts. I am hoping all of you can post here, when you find statistics like these in your States that you are watching.

As of yesterday, they're up to 26 deaths, or 10 per million. That's the highest rate in the U.S. except for Puerto Rico (39 deaths) and Guam (2 deaths). http://www.flutrackers.com/forum/showpost.php?p=308005&postcount=4

Re: United States - Uptick in Hospitalizations, Severity of Disease, Quick Death Thread

CDC again pointed out in their briefing yesterday, "Some people who are tested have the test be falsely negative, or inconclusive, or aren't tested at all in the hospital...there are people who don't get reported or laboratories that don't test. Or laboratory tests that are falsely negative."

H1N1 Virus Found in 4-Year-Old Who Died Monday
By Tara Garcia Mathewson
Posted November 13, 2009 at 4:42 p.m. , updated November 13, 2009 at 4:48 p.m.
BREMERTON ? The H1N1 virus was detected in a 4-year-old Kitsap County girl who died on Nov. 9, but it is unclear if the virus directly caused her death, according to the Kitsap County Health district.

According to Health District Director Scott Lindquist, the child did not exhibit usual H1N1 symptoms like fever, cough and sore throat.

?What we have here is a little girl that died unexpectedly and had a positive test" for H1N1, Lindquist said.

The child attended an East Bremerton pre-school. Lindquist said the Health District does not plan to ask the school to do anything differently as a result of this death.

?Our advice still remains cover your cough, don?t go to school if you?re sick, wash your hands and get your vaccine if you meet the criteria group,? Lindquist said.

It is the third death involving swine flu in Kitsap County, but the first of a child. A man in his 50s and a woman in her 40s, neither of whom had any other major health issues, died of H1N1 earlier this year.

Twenty-three people in Kitsap County have been hospitalized for H1N1, according to the health district.
