Bird flu detected in three wild birds in NI

Bird flu has been confirmed in a wild goose found near Dungannon, a buzzard near Moira, and a whooper swan in Portballintrae.

The wild goose was the first wild bird to test positive in Northern Ireland since September 2023.

The bird was found near Black Lough, and the disease was confirmed on Thursday, with two further wild birds testing positive on Friday.

The Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (Daera) said that an Avian Influenza Prevention Zone (AIPZ) was put in place on Saturday.​..

Dead swans found in suspected bird flu outbreak

Six dead swans have been found in Worcester in a case of suspected bird flu.

Worcester City Council said on Tuesday evening the birds had been found along a stretch of the River Severn between the cathedral and the railway viaduct.

It added that some parts of the riverside path had been closed to help reduce the spread.

The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) said it was too early to confirm if the birds had died as a result of avian flu.​..

A beauty spot in a seaside town has a suspected outbreak of avian influenza, also known as bird flu.

Blackpool Council said several swans had died at the town's Stanley Park over the last few days.

The deaths have been reported to the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) as the birds had been displaying symptoms of avian influenza.

Bird flu has been reported at an East Yorkshire nature reserve.

Yorkshire Wildlife Trust said the outbreak was affecting mute swans at the North Cave Wetlands centre near Hull.

It added it was "closely monitoring the situation with support from Defra".

The charity is not closing the reserve, but asking visitors to report sick or dead birds...
