A mysterious illness has attacked 15 members of a Hungarian family, killing one of them Saturday, reports nol.hu.

A 49-year-old man from Kecskem?t, a city 50 miles south of Budapest, and 14 others in his family were admitted to Kecskem?t County Hospital Saturday morning with high fevers and flu symptoms.

The man's condition worsened and he was transferred to the intensive care unit where he died that evening.

Several members of the family are serving in the army, and one of them has served abroad.

The family is being quarantined in the hospital's internal medicine ward No. 2, which was closed off Sunday morning. Patients are not allowed to leave their rooms and doctors are required to wear protective attire.

The condition of one of the 14 patients who is being treated at the hospital with similar symptoms is serious, said Attil?n? Horv?th, spokesperson for the hospital. The patients are being given antibiotics.

Laboratory tests are currently underway to identify the illness, said Gyula Mucsi, head of the South Alf?ld Regional Institute of the National Public Health and Medical Officers Service (?NTSZ).

An amazing coincidence:

the man who died is from Kecskemet, the very place where the turkeys were slaughtered to be sent to Bernard Matthews place in Suffolk, UK.

credits Ukmum.

If some speculating is permitted, the disease could be Encephalitis or Trichinellosis.

There are examples of a family who fell ill because of tickborn encephalitis from raw goat or cow milk.

Could be Trichinellosis, coming from Raw or not properly cooked porc (wild boar?).

We will have to wait till the results of the lab tests.

To clarify...it seems there is a turkey processing plant in Kecskemet, at which time (during the Bernard Mathews outbreak) had sent some meat to Sarvar (which seems to deal directly with Bernard Mathews).

"There is indeed a turkey processing plant in Kecskemet which sent some meat to Sarvar which sent it on to various parts of western Europe," said Andras Dekany, spokesman at Hungary's Agriculture Ministry.
