UNICEF Launches Campaign On Bird Flu Prevention

CHAMPASSAK, March 9 (Bernama) -- The UNICEF and the National Avian and Human Influenza Coordination Office (NAHICO) launched a health education campaign on the prevention of bird flu for six villages, where the H5N1 virus recently broke out.
The six villages are Thongthing, Nongbokyai, Kengyao of Bachieng Chaleunsouk district, Selabam, Thongnahinoy in Sanasomboun district and Vang village in Pholthong district in Champassak province.
The campaign aimed to train public health staff and create awareness on bird flu virus to the local people in the districts and province, the Lao news agency (KPL) reported Friday.
Quoting the Head of Technical Team of Research and Training of Health Education Information Centre, the campaign drew more than 700 people from six target villages, and the message reached to the people.
Thongtheng was the first village in Bachieng Chaleunsouk district in Champassak province broke out bird flu, which claimed more than 1,300 chickens, and 1,500 chickens have been culled.
