In Lviv, the first case of tick-borne encephalitis in 2026 has been laboratory confirmed. The disease was detected in a 59-year-old man who participated in an ornithological expedition in the northwestern part of the Volyn region during the incubation period.

This was reported by the Lviv Regional Center for Disease Control and Prevention.

During the expedition in the Shatsk and Luboml districts, the man repeatedly noticed ticks attaching to his neck, arms, legs, and shoulder area. He removed the ticks himself, sometimes crushing them. He wore protective clothing, but did not always use repellents. He did not consume raw goat or cow milk, as well as thermally unprocessed dairy products.

The man did not receive a vaccination against tick-borne encephalitis.

The first symptoms of the disease appeared on July 8. He experienced a rise in body temperature to 38.6 °C and a severe headache. Later, he developed pronounced weakness, dizziness, coordination disturbances, and hand tremors...
