KIEV, June 25. /TASS/. Ukraine is setting a new record-high of coronavirus cases identified over a 24-hour period for the second day running, as 994 people contracted the virus over the past 24 hours, while 940 new infections were reported yesterday, the Ukrainian National Security and Defense Council noted in a statement Thursday.
"In the past 24 hours, the number [of people] who contracted coronavirus increased by 994. Therefore, 40,008 people got ill overall," the statement reads.

KYIV (Reuters) - Ukraine is opening more of its hospitals to coronavirus cases as the institutions initially chosen to accept patients no longer have enough beds to cope with a surge in infections, the health minister said on Wednesday.
KIEV, July 9 (Xinhua) -- A total of 51,224 confirmed COVID-19 cases with 1,327 deaths were registered in Ukraine on Thursday, while 23,784 patients have recovered, according to the Public Health Center under Ukraine's Health Ministry.
A total of 810 new patients have tested positive for the coronavirus in Ukraine in the past 24 hours.
So far, 13,655 patients have been hospitalized in Ukraine, including 424 on ventilators.

With these new cases, the total number of coronavirus count has reached 72,168 while 1,725 people have died due to the disease. Over 39,000 people who contracted COVID-19 have now recovered.
"We are actively pursuing a policy of agreements on the supply of vaccines to Ukraine, as soon as they appear, with almost all companies or alliances that have already come a long way and may produce a vaccine in the near future. We want Ukraine to be one of the first countries provided with vaccines," Stepanov said at a briefing on Sunday, August 2.
He also recalled that four clinical trials of drugs that can be used in the symptomatic treatment of COVID-19 had been registered in Ukraine.
According to Stepanov, the Ministry of Health of Ukraine monitors global trends in the treatment of coronavirus disease and, if necessary, includes the necessary drugs in the national COVID-19 treatment protocol.
Ukraine reported 73,158 cases of COVID-19 as of August 3, including 990 new cases over the past 24 hours. Some 1,725 patients died of the disease and 39,543 recovered.
