Health minister flies to Mariupol following cholera outbreak in city

Ukrainian Health Minister Oleksandr Anischenko has flown to Mariupol (Donetsk region), following an outbreak of cholera in the city.

The press service of the Health Ministry reported on Monday that Anischenko had gone to Mariupol at the order of Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych and Prime Minister Mykola Azarov.

According to the ministry, three cases of cholera have been registered in Mariupol.

Tests were conducted in the laboratory of especially dangerous infections at the Donetsk regional sanitary epidemiological station, and all of the patients were hospitalized at the infectious diseases hospital.

"The condition of two patients is currently satisfactory, while one patient is suffering from acute renal failure," reads the statement.
