220 more dies from ARI and H1N1 in Ukraine
Ukraine withnessed many deaths during christmas and new year, as toll reaches 759 after 220 new fatalities in two weeks
Eastern Ukraine was hardest hit this time. The region is home to just above 18 million people, and faced 129 more deaths in fourteen days
Ukraine's Ministry of Health (MoH) recorded 220 more deaths in last two weeks, as total number of fatalities in the country went up from 539 to 759
The number of new fatal cases in Ukraine increased considerably compared with the previous two-week periods : 5 - 19 December (total number of 79 deaths) and 21 November - 5 December (86 deaths)
EASTERN UKRAINE
129 of the deaths in last two weeks occured in the 8 easternmost subdivisions of Ukraine (Donetsk 42, Kharkiv 21, Crimea 17, Dnipropetrovsk 17, Zaporizhzhya 16, Sevastopol 7, Kherson 5, Luhansk 4)
As of 19 December 2009 the eight subdivisions in the east had a total of 116 registered deaths. Hence, number of deaths more than doubled by 2 January
(the number increased by 111.2 % reaching 245)

Western Ukraine had a total of 288 deaths by 19 December. Through 2 January the macro region saw 8 % more people die from pneumonia and influenza (ARI and H1N1)
