Derby mum says 'Mysterious illness cost me seven years... until surgery gave me my life back'

SALLIE Powell could not drive a car, could not hold a plate and ? worst of all for a photographer ? could not grip her camera.

For years, the mum-of-one had no idea what was wrong with her and why she was suffering from serious pains in her bones, high blood pressure, confusion and severe memory loss.

The 47-year-old saw several GPs and even had her womb surgically removed four years ago in the hope of relieving her symptoms.

But it was when she turned to the internet that she finally found the answers she needed and, in June 2012, had surgery which changed her life.

Now Sallie, of Mackworth, is doing all she can to raise awareness of hyperparathyroidism ? a disorder of the glands in the neck. She said: "I'm determined to make sure other people don't go what I've been through ? there were times where I was so unwell...
