Residents of Orchards Care Home in Shard End rushed to hospital with fever and breathing difficulties

Two elderly residents have been struck down with meningitis after an outbreak of the potentially-deadly disease at a Birmingham care home.

The unnamed man and woman were taken to hospital after ambulances were called to Orchards Care Home in Shard End.

One of the elderly residents had difficulty breathing, while the second had developed a fever.

Blood tests later confirmed both patients have meningitis, a potentially fatal infection usually associated with children and young people...
