London is to set up mass graves for the victims of the swine flu pandemic after a 59-page official report predicted that Britain will be witnessing the pandemic disease in fall.

Britain's Department of Health has warned the UK officials and policy-makers to announce a state of emergency in the country.

The official report confirms the UK government plans to set up mass graves for the victims of the swine flu pandemic.

It is predicted that if no concrete measures are taken for preventing the spread of swine flu, the number of swine flu victims will reach to two billion worldwide in 2011 that will undoubtedly result in deaths of 10 to 20 percent of the patients.

One of the countries with a high likelihood of swine flu pandemic within next year is Britain. Hence, the UK Home Office has announced that it plans to construct mass graves to bury the victims in case the disease spreads quickly.

In its latest report published on August 21, the World Health Organization (WHO) has announced over 182,000 confirmed cases worldwide, 1,800 of which have been fatal.

Were did they get the : deaths of 10 to 20 percent of the patients. from?

I can?t find any mentioning of that in the :

10-20 % death rate is exstreamly high, IMO that must be som kind of mistake/error.

The government is planning to create a series of mass graves to cope with a second outbreak of swine flu in the autumn.

A Home Office document warns that a mass burial site may be needed to cope with the potential crisis.

The proposals were discussed between government officials and council bosses last month, and will affect those areas where there may not be enough graves for victims of the illness.

Within weeks of a full-blown pandemic, the number of burials could more than double and inner city areas "may experience a shortage of grave space", according to the report.

The Framework for Planners Preparing to Manage Deaths - a -page document - discusses using "a grave that is for a number of unrelated persons, excavated mechanically in advance and designed for efficient preparation and use."

It said this approach would create a "burial site for multiple graves and consecutive burials" but added there must still be "marking of the position of individual burials".

It added that some cemeteries "may experience shortage of grave space, in particular in inner city areas".

Freight containers and " inflatable" storage units may be needed to provide extra mortuary space. But it stated that "refrigerated vehicles and trailers should not be used".

During the meeting, in which a senior official from Westminster council, gave a presentation, officials discussed the need for cemeteries and crematoriums to work seven days a week and the hiring of extra staff to cope.

The report also warned there may be a need for more "basic and shorter services at the chapel" or for "memorial services" to be held at a person's home instead.

Whitehall officials are also speaking to coffin makers to see if they could meet demands.
Retired doctors may also be called back to work to issue death certificates so GPs can focus on patients.
According to the document it may no longer be possible to bury some people in family plots and it may also become impossible to fly home the bodies of Britons who die abroad.
Meanwhile, NHS Blood and Transplant appealed to the public to give blood to avoid stocks being reduced over the autumn and winter as regular donors fall ill with swine flu. People cannot give blood when they have flu so it is important to keep the blood banks well stocked, it warned.

Right now the reports seem to have about 5-15% of the people that are hospitalized end up dying.

All reports in the UK published before 2009 are aimed at H5N1, as this is where they expected the next flu pandemic to come from.

More recently they have been editing the reports them so they fit the current pandemic but some do not quite fit the current situation. Thats my opinion anyway

Here is a link to a letter sent from the department of health re h1n1 vaccination plans from june this year. You can see poultry workers in the priority groups. Looks like thay just edited a a doc to fit the new situation.

All reports in the UK published before 2009 are aimed at H5N1, as this is where they expected the next flu pandemic to come from.

Published 22 November 2007, this report was developed with H5N1 in mind. The following are excerpts from report:

Designed as the "Government's strategy to develop and strength preparations for a potentially devastating impact of a pandemic," the two main objectives I took from the report were: " management of the dead- to ensure death management process can continue to operate under pressure of large number of deaths, maintaining dignity in death..." and " as a business continuity measure- to enable business as usual for as long as possible...business continuity planning should have at it's heart...estimate of the number of staff likely to be absent from work at peak of pandemic..."

UK's "Civil Contingency Act of 2004 (provides) for emergencies such as pandemic flu...legal obligation upon emergency services and local authorities to assess, plan for, and exercise...(so) can continue to deliver functions in an emergency..."
