Norovirus outbreak at Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton

An outbreak of norovirus means visiting restrictions are in place at Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton.

Sedgemoor, Conservators, Fielding, Coleridge and Mendip wards are being closely monitored to prevent the spread of the infection. Visiting on these wards have been restricted to immediate family or close friends.

Poole hospital lifts visiting restrictions after Norovirus outbreak

WARD visiting restrictions implemented at Poole Hospital in a bid to halt the spread of the norovirus vomiting bug have been lifted.

Health chiefs introduced restrictions earlier this month in response to high levels of norovirus in the community and a number of cases within the hospital.

Paignton Hospital "stay away" norovirus warning

PAIGNTON Hospital staff are appealing to families and friends wanting to visit patients to stay away to help reduce the spread of the sickness bug Norovirus.

Torbay and Southern Devon Health and Care NHS Trust say the hospital will not be taking new inpatient admissions for the time being.

Norovirus outbreak shuts hospital wards

ALL wards at a Worcestershire hospital have been closed to visitors due to an outbreak of the winter sickness bug norovirus.

Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust has closed the doors to all wards at the Alexandra Hospital, in Redditch.

The Avon 3 and Laurel 3 wards at Worcestershire Royal Hospital, in Worcester, are also closed due to norovirus.

A debilitating stomach bug claimed the life of a healthy young woman, an inquest heard.

Karen Tomlinson, 38, was found dead on her living room floor by her father last September 15, Chesterfield Coroner?s Court heard on Thursday.

The inquest revealed single Ms Tomlinson, who worked as a benefits officer, was likely to have contracted norovirus from someone else.

Pathologist Dr Roger Start said: ?Norovirus can be extremely debilatating and highly contagious.

A spokesperson for Public Health England said: "Approximately 30 students who attended an event in Newcastle on 10 May have reported symptoms of illness.

"Two samples taken from students who were ill have tested positive for norovirus (also known as the winter vomiting bug) which is the most common cause of gastro-enteritis in England and Wales."

Park Primary in Stranraer closed due to sickness bug outbreak

A primary school in southern Scotland has been closed after more than 120 pupils and staff were struck down by a sickness bug.

Park Primary in Stranraer has been closed while public health experts to investigate the causes of the outbreak and carry out deep-cleaning.

A short statement from Dumfries and Galloway Council confirmed the decision to close the school on Friday.

Public health consultant Dr Andrew Carnon said the symptoms were "very suggestive" of the norovirus but that could not be confirmed until test results were available.

Hundreds of youngsters to pay respects to tragic Natasha Scott-Falber, who would have been 15 today

HUNDREDS of youngsters are expected to pay their respects to 14-year-old Natasha Scott-Falber who died last week.

The aspiring musical theatre student, from Wyedean School, in Sedbury, died after suffering from suspected norovirus and septicaemia on Valentine's Day.

Natasha, of Caerwent, Monmouthshire, was found dead at her dad's home earlier this year.

The Wyedean School pupil started to feel ill five days prior to her death with what was suspected to be the norovirus, but her condition severely deteriorated and, at the time, her family said she died from what was thought to be septicaemia.

But following a post-mortem and toxic tests, medical investigations revealed Natasha died as a direct result of toxic shock syndrome.

Vomiting bug closes Ysgol Nant y Coed primary school

Over 100 pupils and staff are affected at the 151-pupil Ysgol Nant y Coed in Llandudno Junction.

Conwy council said it had closed the school on Friday for what it called a "precautionary deep clean".

Public Health Wales said no tests had been carried out, but said it was probably a strain of norovirus.

Two deaths at virus-hit home

The county coroner is looking into the deaths of two people from a Northampton care home following an outbreak of winter vomiting.

Health officials said 37 residents and 15 staff at the Templemore Care Home in Harlestone Road, Dallington have been treated for diarrhoea and vomiting since the weekend.

It is understood that two residents died - one on Sunday after being taken to Northampton General Hospital and one at the care home in the early hours of Monday - after suffering the same symptoms.

Yesterday the office of Anne Pember, the county coroner, said a post mortem examination had been completed on one person who died of natural causes, which may include the effects of winter vomiting. The second post mortem has yet to be completed.

Wirral hospital emergency unit under 'severe pressure' as norovirus outbreak hits borough

MEDICS are urging Wirral people not to attend Arrowe Park Hospital?s Accident and Emergency unit unless it is absolutely necessary.

And they warn an outbreak of norovirus ? the ?winter vomiting bug? - is adding to already severe problems.

A statement by the hospital trust said the number of people going to A&E and calling 999 has caused ?severe pressure? on the health service over the last few days.

?NHS teams across Wirral are working extremely hard to cope with this demand,? it says.

In order to ensure emergency services are able to deal with the most urgent cases, the NHS is advising people with minor illness or injuries to go to walk-in centres or clinics, and to avoid attending casualty unless it is a genuine emergency.

York Hospital wards remain closed due to norovirus

FIVE wards remained closed to new admissions at York Hospital following an outbreak of norovirus.

Some urgent operations went ahead today but many elective operations were cancelled due to an outbreak of the winter vomiting bug.

York Hospital has been put on ?red alert? due to the outbreak, which yesterday meant as many as 11 ambulances were left queuing outside A&E in Wigginton Road.
