Stomach bug forces ward closures

A Denbighshire hospital has closed three wards to new admissions after an outbreak of gastroenteritis.

Conwy and Denbighshire NHS Trust said the move was to minimise the risk of spreading the infection at Ysbyty Glan Clwyd in Bodelwyddan.

Children are particularly vulnerable to the bug, which causes sickness and diarrhoea.

Anyone with symptoms is asked to stay away from the hospital to reduce the risk of spreading the virus.

Anyone who visits an infected ward is asked to seek advice from the nurse in charge.

Conwy and Denbighshire NHS Trust said: "Viral gastroenteritis is extremely prevalent in the community at the moment, and we currently have a number of wards affected in the hospital.

"Consequently, we have closed some beds to admissions on three wards.

"This is in line with our standard infection control isolation procedures to minimize the risk of spreading the infection."

Patients expecting su
rgery are advised to telephone the hospital beforehand.
