DEFRA's Framework response plan for exotic animal diseases (137pp)
Most telling are the goals listed in the document [page 11 in pdf file, numbered page 2 in document]
- minimize the number of animals slaughtered
- cause least possible disruption to farming and tourism industries
- minimize damage to the environment and protect public health
-minimize burden on taxpayers and public at large
p13 current situation appears to meet definition for 'red alert" - disease confirmed.
p23 - establish a National Disease Control Centre
p33 eCommunications - establish web site with timely information
p124 [numbered page 115 in document] discusses role of the Health Protection Agency (human health)
p129 brief paragraph for Department of Health describes role and responsibility
Since the DEFRA plan is designed to meet the goals listed in bold above, the Department of Health plan may be more interesting to learn the effort to prevent or contain pandemic potential.
