Bird flu cull may be 'too expensive'

LONDON Mass vaccination or culling of poultry would not be needed to contain anything but the most serious outbreaks of H5N1 bird flu, and may be too expensive to introduce even then, research has suggested.
A computer model of how the disease would affect the British poultry industry has indicated that the more limited measures used to control the recent outbreak at a Bernard Matthews farm in Suffolk are sufficient to deal with most eventualities. Details of the research are published in the journal Proceedings of the Royal Society.
