Pet owners are being warned to spot the signs of Alabama Rot disease early to prevent the death of dogs, and keep an eye on confirmed cases near them. An online map created by Vets4Pets highlights the locations across the UK where the potentially fatal disease has been recorded over the past 10 years.

The map allows you to track your location and view the closest recordings of Alabama Rot, also known as cutaneous and renal glomerular vasculopathy (CRGV), in your neighbourhood. It comes one month after the latest pet fell victim, seven-year-old Labradoodle Molly, in Godstone, Surrey, and tragically passed away...

Alabama rot: Warning over 'surge' in deadly dog disease cases

Vets have issued a warning to dog owners after seeing a spike in cases of the dog disease Alabama Rot.

Anderson Moores Vets in Winchester has been investigating the deadly disease in the UK for more than a decade.

The disease, which can cause kidney failure, has led to the deaths of 318 dogs in the UK since 2012 - with 10 dying so far this year.

Owners are being urged to check for skin lesions and wash pets after muddy walks, to curb the risk of the disease.

Confirmed case for Alabama Rot in Berkshire

Pet owners are reminded to stay vigilant after one confirmed case of Alabama Rot was reported in Berkshire this month February 2024.

The case confirmed for 2024 occurred in Finchampstead. There were only 11 cases recorded in 2022, and there were two reported in Berkshire in 2023.

According to Anderson Moores Veterinary Specialists, CRGV, more commonly known as Alabama rot, is rare but very severe condition that damages dogs' blood vessels in the skin and kidneys...
