FRANKFURT (Reuters) - A Ugandan doctor infected with Ebola arrived in Frankfurt from Sierra Leone for treatment, local officials said on Friday.

"The patient is a physician from Uganda, who has worked for an Italian NGO and has looked after patients in Sierra Leone," Stefan Gruettner, Health Minister of the state of Hesse said. The patient's name was not disclosed.

FRANKFURT?A Ugandan man being treated for Ebola in Germany is no longer infected and is headed toward a full recovery, officials at the University Hospital Frankfurt said on Wednesday.

The patient, a doctor who contracted the disease while working in Sierra Leone for a nongovernmental organization, arrived in the country for treatment on Oct. 3. He was in critical condition and suffered multiple organ failures. The patient is now free of the virus and able to move without pain. He will remain in isolation for the time being.

?We?ve really only known for a few days that he is out of the woods?10 days ago we weren?t 100% sure,? Dr. Timo Wolf, the lead physician for his treatment, said at a press briefing.

German doctors use experimental heart drug in treating Ebola patient

(Reuters) - Doctors in Germany said on Wednesday a patient infected with Ebola had recovered after they had treated him with an experimental drug initially designed to treat vascular problems and help heart attack patients.

Doctors at the Frankfurt University Hospital said the patient, who was medically evacuated to Frankfurt after working with Ebola victims in Sierra Leone, recovered after receiving the drug called FX06, developed by scientists at the Vienna General Hospital in Austria.

While the doctors said their success with this patient suggested FX06 may be a potential treatment for Ebola, the Austrian scientists who developed it said in a statement on their website that another Ebola patient treated in Leipzig with the same drug had died "due to massive overall bleeding".

Despite this, they added, "there is good reason to believe that the drug has a beneficial effect as supportive treatment in Ebola patients".

German hospital discharges Ebola patient

BERLIN (AP) ? A German hospital says a Ugandan doctor it treated after he contracted Ebola while working in Sierra Leone has been cured and discharged.

Frankfurt's University Hospital said Thursday that the man, whose name hasn't been released, was released on Nov. 19 and is now with his family. He was admitted on Oct. 3 and was critically ill for a time.
