Uganda: Suspected Ebola Patient Dies in Kanungu Health

March 15, 2021

Locals in kanungu are living in fear after the death of a suspected Ebola patient.

Obed Kasigwa of Buzira village Bihomborwa ward Kihihi town council died mysteriously on Saturday night, a day after returning from the Democratic Republic of Congo where he had gone to visit his mother.

Tumusiime Jacob, one of the first persons who discovered the body of the 21 year old man said the deceased was found in a pool of blood that was coming from his eyes, ears and mouth. The locals said the signs are related to Ebola and they are since living in fear.

The trained burial team from Kihihi Health centre IV arrived and buried the deceased. The team also disinfected the entire house. Kanungu deputy RDC Gard Rugaju who visited the scene urged all locals and relatives who might have gotten into contact with the deceased to go for a medical checkup for their own good.
When contacted for a comment, Kanungu district health officer, Dr. Stephen Ssebudde dismissed the allegations that the deceased died of Ebola saying the deceased was epileptic, who got an attack in the night and was not helped thus leading to his death.

However the RDC Hajji Shafiq Ssekandi Ssengooba said they are still investigating the case, but warned the general public to remain vigilant saying Ebola cases are being reported in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
