THE government has inaugurated a new malaria herbal drug that reportedly kills mosquito larvae within a short time.

According to the State Minister for Primary Health Care, Dr Emmanuel Otaala, the new drug -Phytolaccadodecandra or green gold (Oluwoko) as is commonly known by the researchers - is expected to reduce the rate of Malaria cases. "Malaria kills 320 Ugandans daily," he said at the launch of the 'Olowoko' Malaria Larvae Project on Friday.

Dr Miph Musoke, the deputy director of the Uganda Virus Research Institute, said he researched on the drug for over 14 years to establish how kills mosquito larvae. He said the Phytolaccadodecandra seeds are dried and thrown in a swamp where mosquitoes breed.
