Malaba, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | With six Kenyan and five Tanzanian truck drivers testing positive on Friday, Ugandan officials will now face pressure to put in place new measures at the borders.

“We tested a total of 1,331 samples today. Of these, 1,020 samples are from truck drivers while all 311 samples from the community and individuals in quarantine tested negative for COVID-19, ” Health Miniser Ruth Aceng revealed on Thursday night.

PML Daily CORONAVIRUS UPDATE: All Saturday’s 1,408 tests in Uganda return negative

Of the samples, 1408 were from truck drivers at the border points of entry while the 483 were from contacts in the community.

In a press statement, the ministry of health said Uganda recorded zero positive cases on Saturday, April 26, 2020, noting that confirmed coronavirus cases remain at 75 with 46 recoveries and 0 deaths.

All the 19 active cases are said to be in “stable condition” at Mulago National Specialized Hospital (3), Entebbe Grade B Hospital (9), Arua regional Hospital (4) and Jinja Referral Hospital (1) Masaka Referral Hospital (1) and Kabala regional Hospital (1).

KAMPALA — Three more people have tested positive for coronavirus in Uganda, pushing the country’s total number of confirmed cases to 88.

The three cases include a Kenyan and a Burundian who arrived to Uganda via Malaba border post.

The Ministry says efforts to track them are underway.

The other case is a 22 year-old Ugandan male from Rakai District, south of the country.

The president also imposed the mandatory wearing of face masks in public as a control measure against Covid-19.

Ugandans can wear washable, reusable cloth masks that are manufactured locally, he said in a televised address on Monday evening.

Warehouses, wholesale shops, garages, insurance firms are allowed to reopen.

All other lockdown measures, including the closure of international borders, a ban on public and private transport, a ban on gatherings and a dusk-to-dawn curfew remain in place for another 14 days.

Uganda has reported a total of 97 confirmed cases, with no deaths.
