Measles breaks out in Southwestern Uganda

Health officials in the Southwestern region have heightened disease surveillance following the outbreak of measles in some of its districts.

Mbarara district has so far registered three cases of the disease which has wreaked havoc in other districts such as Kasese where over 150 people, mostly children are reported to have been infected.

Mbarara district Health Officer Dr. Amooti Kaguna says since February this year, 31 suspected cases have been recorded but only three tested positive to measles...

Uganda: Measles Outbreak Reported in Ibanda

An outbreak of Measles has been reported in the western District of Ibanda.

According to Ibanda District Director of Health Services, Dr Julius Bamwine, the outbreak has been confirmed in the sub-counties of Ishongorero, Nyabuhikye, Kashangura, Bisheeshe, Nsasi among others

Reports also indicate that the disease has been also been reported in Ibanda town council in the wards of Bufunda, Kyaruhanga, Kigarama, Rugazi and Kagongo.

Bamwine says that the matter first came to their attention when the locals first took it to be a strange disease which they thought never needed medical attention...
