<!-- Body --> The Department of Health and Human Services said Wednesday it has ordered additional antiviral drugs that could be used in the event of a possible flu pandemic.

HHS said it ordered 2.2 million more treatment courses of GlaxoSmithKline Plc's (GSK) (GSK) antiviral drug Relenza and 3.8 million more courses of Roche Holdings Ltd.'s (RHHDY) Tamiflu drug.

With the new purchases, the strategic national stockpile will have a total of 26 million treatment courses of antiviral drugs available for distribution in the U.S.

"Our ultimate goal is to stockpile sufficient quantities of antiviral drugs to treat 25% of the U.S. population," HHS Secretary Michael Leavitt said in a statement. Leavitt also said he hoped the orders would stimulate expanded domestic production capacity of the drugs.
