U.S. EMBASSY & CONSULATES IN MEXICO - SECURITY ALERT: RECENT SECURITY INCIDENTS IN SAN JOSE DEL CABO, BAJA CALIFORNIA SUR

JUNE 2, 2026

Location: Neighborhoods near San Jose del Cabo International Airport

Event: U.S. Consulate General Tijuana is aware of media reports related to two recent security incidents between criminal elements and government of Mexico law enforcement near the main international airport servicing the Cabo San Lucas area. Remain vigilant, as additional violence could occur at any time.

While these events have taken place outside of traditional tourist areas, many U.S. citizens transit the airport when traveling to the region. We encourage continued vigilance throughout Cabo San Lucas, and particularly around the airport.

We remind U.S. citizens that while ride share apps such as Uber can drop you off at San Jose del Cabo International airport, they are not allowed to pick up passengers there. Use clearly identifiable taxis with numbering and visible and readable license plates when departing the airport.

Finally, U.S. government employee travel restrictions precluding travel between cities after dark remain in place.

Actions to Take:
  • Monitor local media for updates
  • Be aware of your surroundings
  • Follow all local law enforcement security directives
  • Notify friends and family of your safety should further incidents occur
