Washington, Feb. 29 (EFE). - The Food and Drug Administration (FDA, for its acronym in English) today announced the approval of a vaccine that protects against four common strains of influenza, reducing the impact of the disease.
The quadrivalent FluMist will protect people from 2 to 49 years against two branches of influenza A and two influenza type B.
Vaccines containing inactivated viruses just above two types of influenza A and influenza B a, so that the sum of a new type B, increases significantly the protection.
The vaccine is administered nasally and to greater protection to influenza type B will particularly benefit children and school age groups, the FDA said.
Between 1976 and 2007, annual deaths related to influenza in the United States have ranged from a low of 3,000 to the maximum of 49,000 deaths. EFE
