KILLEEN, TX

The Killeen Independent School District says it has learned that some students and staff at four campuses may have been exposed to tuberculosis.

KISD was contacted by the Bell County Health Department with the information.

The district has not not released to the media which campuses were affected but instead says parents of select students at the respective campuses who may have potentially been in contact with someone exposed have been notified...

A Killeen Independent School District student has tested positive for tuberculosis, a potentially deadly condition, a county health official confirmed Friday.

The child is a student at a KISD middle school, said Gene Mikeska, Bell County Health District spokesman. Mikeska did not name the middle school, nor did school officials.

"We don?t want to be speculative because TB is in and around our area," Mikeska said. "Although the numbers aren?t high in our area, we do have some here."

In a news release just before 5 p.m. Friday, KISD officials said they have not yet been notified by the health district about the latest tuberculosis case...
