160 Clint ISD students potentially exposed to Tuberculosis

EL PASO, Texas ? A potential tuberculosis exposure within the Clint Independent School District may have possibly exposed the disease to 160 children, health officials said.

The exposure happened at Frank Macias Elementary School, according to the Department of Public Health.

Health officials said the department sent letters to parents earlier this week stating that their children may have had close contact with someone with TB.

The Department of Public Health recommends that these children be screen for TB as a precaution...

EL PASO, Texas -

The City of El Paso Department of Public Health has released the latest information on the tuberculosis (TB) exposure at Frank Macias Elementary.

As of 4 p.m. Wednesday, the Health Dept. has tested about 70 school staff members and 10 students who are part of the second group to be tested for TB...

...Preliminary results from the first group of Frank Elementary School students and staff tested were released Monday afternoon with more than 20 percent of those tested at that time testing positive for the disease.

The 163 students and eight staff members were exposed to an active case of TB.

Of 155 students and staff tested as of Monday, 35 tested positive and 120 tested negative. Two tests are pending. Of the positive cases, 29 are children and six are adults...

Following TB investigation at Frank Macias Elementary, second active case emerges

EL PASO, Texas ? Following a potential tuberculosis exposure at Frank Macias Elementary School, health officials confirmed a second active case of TB.

In late June, health officials tested 159 students and eight staff members at the school who may have come in contact with an active case of tuberculosis.

As a result of those tests, 38 tested positive, and health officials said Wednesday that a second case of active TB was confirmed...

The City of El Paso Department of Public Health has identified three more individuals who have tested positive for tuberculosis after re-testing was conducted last week at Frank Macias Elementary in Horizon City.

Health Dept. officials say re-testing is a standard procedure and is conducted eight to ten weeks after the last possible exposure to an active case of TB. They also said it is not unusual to find new positives during re-testing because enough time has passed for the bacteria to incubate and for the body to produce the necessary reaction to create a positive test result...
