...HSNTX Executive Director Scott Holloway tells KETK that the illness made its way into their facility after they brought in a litter of puppies just before Christmas. They held them for three days before they began adopting the animals out. However, around New Year's Eve, the puppies from that litter became ill. By then, the virus had already effected more animals.
"During New Year's week, we took in more than seventy puppies," Holloway said. "Whatever this virus is, it started with that litter and spread."
The illness is an upper respiratory virus among dogs, in which the animal will experience discharge for the eyes and nose, as well as sneezing and coughing. Shortly after the early signs appear, the symptoms can rapidly progress to a high fever and eventually the animal may even die...
