Two weeks before fall classes are to begin, the University of South Florida Polytechnic has reported two cases of the H1N1 flu on campus.

The school learned Monday that two campus employees were diagnosed with H1N1, the virus commonly referred to as swine flu.

Both employees are recovering, officials said.

"We believe the risk to students was minimal, and no student cases have been reported," a school spokesman said in a statement Thursday.

USF Polytechnic is starting an awareness campaign on campus to educate students and employees about swine flu.

"Focusing on education while remaining a safe and healthy place is important for the entire community," said Dr. Daniel Haight, director of the Polk County Health Department.

The school contacted Haight to learn more about H1N1 and how to best to keep it from interfering in campus life.

According to the Florida Department of Health, at least 3,000 people in Florida have been affected by the H1N1 virus since April.

However, the department, along with the Centers for Disease Control and the World Health Organization, has stopped collecting numbers of confirmed H1N1 cases.

There have been 48 laboratory confirmed deaths in the state, including one in Polk County.
