The two people recently returned from Ebola-stricken countries in West Africa. DHH could not disclose the nature of the visit to Africa or the identities of the people.

DHH spokesperson Olivia Watkins described the people as "low risk." They don't have any symptoms or fever, she said. Ebola is only contagious after symptoms begin and is spread through contact with bodily fluids.

They are being monitored in their homes for the virus' 21-day incubation period. State health officials will take their temperature twice a day and check for symptoms during the monitoring period.

The pair brings the total number of Louisianans being monitored for Ebola to four. On Thursday, the New Orleans area received its first person to be monitored for Ebola. An LSU employee is also being monitored for symptoms at his home in Baton Rouge.

Jefferson Parish officials say the two new people being monitored are a couple who live in the same home in Marrero and that they recently traveled to Sierra Leone in West Africa.

Jefferson Parish coroner and emergency physician Dr. Gerry Cvitanovich says there could be more people needing to be monitored in the area.

"It's not surprising to me at all that we have cases that need to be observed. The reason for that is because there are approximately 3,000 people from South Louisiana who are working in the oil and gas business off the west coast of Africa." said Dr. Cvitanovich.

DHH says if there is an Ebola threat in the state from direct expose, Louisianians will be told.
